OSMOGRO PLANT WATERING SYSTEM

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. How does Osmogro® work?

Osmogro® self-watering products are the result of more than 20 years biomaterials and polymer technology research. By placing the specially designed, flat-based Osmogro® plant pot on top of the Osmogro® gel and fabric discs a seal is created between the plant pot and the external water reservoir. This means that water can only enter the Osmogro® plant pot by diffusion or osmosis through the Osmogro® gel disc, which acts as a water-permeable hydrogel membrane barrier.

2. Why do I need the special Osmogro® plant pot?

The Osmogro® plant pot has a completely flat and smooth base with normal plant pot drainage holes only in the bottom. It's been specially designed to work with the other components in the Osmogro® houseplant watering system and unless your plant is supplied in an Osmogro® compatible plant pot, your houseplant will need to be re-potted into one of these.

3. How do I re-pot my plant into the Osmogro® pot?

Before re-potting your indoor plant into the Osmogro® plant pot, make sure that your houseplants are well watered and that the soil or compost is moist to the touch. This can be done easily by sitting your houseplants in saucers of water (or in the sink) for around 15 minutes.

Carefully remove your houseplant from its normal plant pot and re-pot into the Osmogro® plant pot. Push the plant firmly in making sure that the soil, compost or growing medium is in close contact with the drainage holes. If necessary, add additional houseplant compost or growing medium.

4. How long will Osmogro® products last?

The Osmogro® plant pot, reservoir, and fabric disc have no set shelf life, however the Osmogro® gel discs do have a limited lifespan. With proper care and handling (ie not stored in direct sunlight) the Osmogro® gel disc should last for at least 3 - 6 months and can last for over a year when caring for your houseplants.

5. How long can I leave my plants unattended using Osmogro®?

You can leave your houseplants unattended for 1 - 4 weeks or even longer, depending on the size or capacity of your water reservoir (e.g. plant pot saucers, ceramic and glass bowls, plant trays and even your sink or bath!). Remember, different indoor plants will have different watering requirements and temperature and environment will also affect houseplants' watering needs.

6. For what kind of plants can I use Osmogro®?

Osmogro® will help water most common and popular flowering and foliage houseplants including african violets or saintpaulias, azalea, begonia, gerbera, calathea, chrysanthemum, cyclamen, cineraria, euonymus, euphorbia, ferns, fuchsia, impatiens, geraniums, hibiscus, hydrangea, ivy (hedera), jasmine, kalanchoe, plumbago, poinsettia, primula, orchids, cyclamen, bromeliads, areca palms, small citrus trees, small conifers, carnivorous plants, streptocarpus, peace lilies (Spathiphyllum), etc and kitchen herbs including basil, rosemary, parsley, coriander and even your indoor tomato plants.

7. Is Osmogro® reusable?

As long as your Osmogro® gel discs are not punctured and are kept swollen by immersing in water, they can be re-used.
